  • My Artist Statement

    By Ari Schubot

Throughout this year's projects, I decided to go with the theme of environmentalism, travel and the psychology of people. Throughout my projects, I was trying to show that we as humans should appreciate the beauty that surrounds us. Throughout time humans have interacted with each other face to face but with the increase in advancements in technology we are slowly losing real connections with people and nature. It has been proven that people who are always surrounded by nature, without too much interference from technology as they are more content and relaxed with life. I want to bring in this aspect through my work by associating that we have a disconnect and no real connections with people/ nature anymore and that most humans today have a stronger relationship with technology than anything else. I also wanted to show that we live in such a concrete world that doesn’t provide us with a release from day to day activities. In my final, I wanted to show that humans should be integrating more nature throughout our cities because adding more flora to the developed world adds a layer of peacefulness to the chaotic world, and it provides a healthier environment for humans to live in. To show this throughout my project, I will continue to overlay images of flora overdeveloped/ manicured places and then transfer an environmental quote/ statement/ fact on each image to further convey my message. I did not want to blend the images to the point where it was indistinguishable from the original image; I wanted there to be clear lines of where I was putting in the wilderness to where it was tamed.
